  • Group Discounts were being inaccurately applied to 'Move: Leaping', 'Pilot: Riding', 'Ranged: Simple', and 'Ranged: Dive to safety +'. It has been fixed.
  • Combat System has been put up on the Web.
  • Personality: Runes and Astrological Tarot have been fixed so they are worth points as a flaw.
  • Flamethrower changed to Flame-spitter to better represent the fact that it fires discrete blobs of fuel, not a constant stream.
  • Prof: Assassin, Bodyguard, Bomber and have been changed from skills (variable level) to Talents (fixed level) This is to better represent that they have single use abilities which do not vary with skill level. Ie the mechanic of an assassin being able to kill one NPC per game does not rely on the skill level so is better represented as a talent.
  • Some talents have had + added after their name (ie "Melee: wall of steel +"). This is to indicate that the talent is a bonus, and is added to another ability in specific circumstances.
  • "Crewmember" has been removed and a pilot: unique vehicle has been added.
  • Some of the profession skills which where in the wrong area have been moved from style to mental where they belong.
  • Extra item has been added to allow characters to have extra weapons, clothing, etc without having to pay full price for the second item.
  • World best has been updated to reflect the fact that it has can only be applied to abilities at racial maximum (40 for a human).

Differences from Avatars

  • The Setting is a unique setting created by the GMs, allowing for greater player input.
  • Combat is more deadly. Most combats will be over in just a few rounds.
  • Healing is downtime only and can't be done in game. It is also Slow and Expensive, so characters may find that they are carrying wounds over into the next session.
  • Wealth has been completely overhauled, and replaced with a system using Bags of Gold.
  • Items will be handled differently. Items you wish to keep you must buy with XP. Temporary items cost a Bag of Gold. Impromptu items
  • Rank has been completely overhauled, and replaced with an order system. Orders are quite powerful, but should be used responsibly as unfair and/or unfun orders can be disallowed or even punished in game.
  • Rather than abilities being capped by Patron% they are now capped by your core aspects (Power, Finesse, Mental, Style).
  • Ability levels are not % any more. 0 is still human average (not nothing), negative indicate below average abilities, and normal human maximum is 40.
  • Mainspring uses a standard list of abilities rather than the "Black box" unique abilities of Avatars.
  • Mainspring has strong established groups that characters belong to (Country, Race, hierarchy).
  • Better online help. (its really good, check it out.)
  • Reputation is an entirely new social aspect of the game.
  • Synergies: a new costing method means that buying related abilities gives you a discount (ie being a good acrobat makes dancing cheaper).
  • Character templates are provided to give a better idea of minimum skills for different professions and backgrounds.
  • Discoveries is a new addition to allow scientist to have more in game influence.
