General
From Mainspring
To help you figure out what style of game Mainspring will be, we've come up with some general information about how political/combative/etc it will be.
| Power level
The PCs are exceptional people, powerful leaders, war heroes, international spies, world record holders, etc, etc. They are far more capable than a normal mortal, but some NPCs may be more powerful again. The players' most common adversaries will be others PCs or people of roughly equal power. |
| Brightness
The game should be hopeful, but they will not always win. |
| Combat
This will happen occasionally, but not all PCs will need to know how to fight. Combat is intended to be more cinematic than realistic. *Combat can be very fast and quite deadly*. PCs must state if they are "pulling their punches" to avoid killing, and this is not possible with all weapons. Some PCs will be in acting as police and will respond to murders and assaults appropriately. Large monsters (such as the dinosaurs and War clanks) can be very dangerous and may be capable of killing several character in a fight. |
| Content (PG, h, v)
There may be young people at the game. Therefore language and content should be kept at an appropriate level. The GMs may, with suitable groups, extend the content to cover more mature areas. |
| Contrast
The game will have Black and White bits but also shades of grey. Not every monstrous construct is evil (but many are), and some 'nice' people will really be evil (but not all of them). While there is intended to be a lot of character tensions, stupid evil characters will not be encouraged. |
| Humour
This depends on the players and characters. If a heavy war clank is depressed, telling him knock-knock jokes may not improve his mood. |
| Mood
Mood of the game will have elements of intrigue, romance, betrayal, dashing heroics, and war-weary sadness depending on your choice of character. |
| Politics
It will be up to the players how much politicking they get involved in. The political tension and strong rivalries within the city should allow for a lot of political manoeuvring. |
| Problem solving
There will be several problems available in the game at any time. PCs should feel free to solve them or not as they see fit. Typical problems will not be too complex, and characters have access to several abilities which will help provide new information on problems. |
| Social
Social interaction is very important and will mostly be PC to PC. The characters are here for a wide variety of reasons and at times it may be necessary to negotiate with other characters. |
